Bosnia and Herzegovina Mine Action Center

During the visit to Vrbovik, the Municipality of Breza, representatives of the USA State Department and the US Embassy in BiH, expressed satisfaction with the imminent implementation of this project, given its importance for the safety of the population living there and the use of land that has been at risk from mines for many years. It is an area of ​​about 30,000 m2, where a large number of mine devices are expected to be found and which was in front of the former lines of confrontation during the previous war.

The project will be implemented through a USA grant, and work is expected to begin by the end of September 2021.

At the same time, in accordance with the ITF tendering procedures, as on of the main sources of financing for demining in our country, which channels majority of foreign and domestic donations for mine action in BiH, required funds for a total of 42 projects were provided. 29 through US donations, 11 projects by the Government of Japan and 2 projects with the participation of the Czech Republic.

These tasks include an area of ​​602,866 m2 – USA donations in the area of ​​Bihać, Doboj, Donji Vakuf and Foča, and an area of ​​194,026 m2 – a donation from Japan in the area of ​​Gornji Vakuf, Vitez, Bihać, Brčko, Šamac, Doboj, Maglaj, Konjic, Breze, Vosokog and Foča. The Czech donation includes two smaller projects in the Foča area sized ​​13,464 m2.

The realization of the mentioned projects is expected by the end of the current year, which means that the demining works will be in full capacity, with the engagement of majority of the accredited organizations and resources necessary for their realization.

All tasks are on the list of priorities and have been waiting for implementation for a long time.  Through their finalization, over 700,000 m2 will be returned for the safe use to local residents and municipalities.
